Hi everyone! My name is Vanessa and I'm an artist with 222 Footlight Entertainment. First, thanks for visiting and we are super excited that you're here. This blog will be about anything and everything including (but definitely not limited to) experiences at auditions, tips for writer's block, diy film equipment and headshot advice.
All artists will be contributing to the blog so we will have views and opinions on multiple subjects from various viewpoints. And while I can't leave you emptyhanded on our first blog post, the video below is not mine :( I know you're sad, but cheer up. It's still awesome.
Mark Duplass (if you don't know who he is... you should!) is what a lot of people would call an overnight success. Of course, this is not the case. In fact it is quite the opposite. "I was living in Austin in shitty apartments around town," he said. "I was sitting there thinking, 'I'm inspired, I'm excited, I want to be a filmmaker. I have no connections. Everyone says pick up a camera and do it, but how am I going to get there? What can you do when you're absolutely nowhere?' "
So he did exactly what we are doing. He grabbed his brother Jay and group of "smart friends" and started making $3 movies. "Vanessa, what ARE $3 movies?" you ask. Well, I'll let Mark tell you. Check out his SXSW keynote speech below where he shares eight pieces of advice for those who want to start a career in filmmaking.
Again welcome and see you soon!
