After a lifetime of loving films, a lifetime of wanting to pursue dreams and a lifetime of excuses not to, I decided to go for it just last year.
There are many rough patches in life and sometimes it causes someone to be complacent - to be comfortable in a job or place because of fear of failure to go after what you truly want. Sometimes it takes a kick in the ass to wake you up.
It wasn't until I was laid off from my marketing job and unemployed. It wasn't until my son asked if he could be a fireman when he grew up and me telling him that he could be anything he wanted to be to make me feel like a hypocrite.
The next day I enrolled in a local acting studio (JDS Actors Studio) and 5 months later I decided to start auditioning. The distance from home to LA alone got me a little down but instead of being sad about the parts I was not getting, I picked up a laptop, a camera and some great friends and started making things happen for myself - for ourselves. Today we have completed 2 short films, are currently writing a web series and in pre-production for another short film with more on the way.
Do I get paid? Not yet. Is it getting me industry connections? Not yet. Am I happy doing what I love and balancing my family and passion? Absolutely.
